Coral-covered pinnacles, big schools and some of Phuket’s richest marine life.
Shark Point, or Hin Musang, is a series of submerged pinnacles running roughly north to south. We regularly dive three of them, ranging from the surface down to around 28 metres. It is one of our most diverse local dive sites, with an extraordinary variety of corals and marine life.
The site was named after the leopard sharks once commonly found on the sandy bottom. They are extremely rare today, but Shark Point remains one of the few local sites where they are still occasionally sighted.
Shark Point can be dived in countless ways. Depending on the current, we start at one of the three pinnacles and either drift along the reef towards the next or stay and explore one pinnacle.
Even in strong current, the size and shape of the pinnacles give us sheltered areas to dive. Like King Cruiser and Anemone Reef, however, Shark Point is exposed in open water, so surface conditions still have to be right.
Shark Point is packed with an extraordinary variety of corals, enormous barrel sponges and giant gorgonian sea fans—some standing taller than a man.
Large schools of snapper, fusiliers and barracuda gather around the pinnacles, with jacks, trevallies and other predators hunting in the shallows. Cuttlefish are common, and we've even spotted mating pairs here. Eagle rays occasionally pass the deeper pinnacles.
