About the PADI Divemaster Course

The PADI Divemaster course is your first professional-level certification and the step from being a recreational diver to becoming a dive professional.

At Aloha, Divemaster training is more than completing the required exercises. Over 4–8 weeks, you'll become part of our day-to-day operation — working with instructors and customers, preparing equipment, helping organise dive days, learning to guide certified divers and gaining experience both underwater and on our boat.

We recommend 8 weeks whenever possible. Four weeks is the minimum and is best suited to divers who already have plenty of experience.

Course content

Your Divemaster training is built around four main areas:

Dive theory & standards

The knowledge behind safe and professional dive leadership.

Water skills & practical application

Developing your diving, rescue, demonstration and leadership skills.

Divemaster-conducted programs

Learning how to conduct the PADI activities a Divemaster is qualified to run.

Practical assessment

Working with real students and certified divers alongside your instructor.

What else you'll learn

The course combines the PADI training requirements with hands-on professional experience. You'll develop your skills in dive planning, navigation, search and recovery, deep diving, briefings and guiding, while learning how to assist instructors with real students and certified divers.

You'll also gain experience with the less glamorous — but rather important — side of professional diving: equipment preparation and maintenance, filling cylinders, organising boat trips and keeping a dive day running smoothly.

Because we operate our own boat, you'll also get a close look at the boat side of the job — something a working Divemaster tends to spend quite a lot of time around.

Before you start

• You must be at least 18 years old, be a certified Rescue Diver or equivalent, and have current First Aid and CPR training completed within the previous 24 months.
• You need at least 40 logged dives to begin the course and 60 to certify, as well as a medical statement signed by a doctor within the required period.
• If you're missing any of the required training or experience, contact us before booking and we'll arrange the courses and dives you need as part of your Divemaster training.

Additional PADI fees: After completing the course, the Divemaster application fee (currently AUD 220) is paid directly to PADI when submitting your certification application.
