The water temperature in Khao Lak / Similan Islands – Koh Bon – Koh Tachai – Surin Islands incl. Richelieu Rock?

The Andaman sea around Khao Lak is usually between 25 and 29 degrees Celsius all year round.

During February and March nutrient rich currents may swell up from the open ocean and bring “cold water” with them for short periods. But it rarely gets colder than 25 degrees. If you are sensitive to colder water, an ideal wetsuit is a 3mm shorty or long suit. Shorty’s are available for hire on the Liveaboard cruises.

A benefit from these “cold currents” is that manta rays and whale sharks follow them and can provide an unexpected spectacle.
