Embark on an Adventure: King Cruiser Shipwreck Dive Site

The King Cruiser Shipwreck, an enthralling dive site, lies in close proximity to both Shark Point and Anemone Reef. A solitary buoy marks its presence on the surface, providing a mooring point for boats eager to explore its mysteries.

History Unveiled: A Journey from Ferry to Reef

Once a Japanese car ferry, the King Cruiser underwent transformation into a passenger ferry, serving the route connecting Phi Phi Islands and Phuket. However, fate had other plans. In May 1997, the ship collided with Anemone Reef, ultimately finding its resting place approximately 1 kilometer east of Shark Point.

Diving into the Depths of the Wreck

Submerging into the aquatic realm, divers encounter the remnants of the King Cruiser Shipwreck. Resting at an average depth of about 20 meters, the sandy floor reaches depths of 32 meters. Stretching 85 meters in length and 35 meters in width, this submerged relic now stands as an artificial reef, harboring a profusion of marine life. Over time, warm tropical waters have eroded the ship’s structural integrity. In 2003, Monsoon storms caused part of the upper deck to collapse into the car deck, rendering the interior unsafe for exploration.

Life Blossoms on the Wreckage

Despite its decline, the King Cruiser Shipwreck teems with life. Corals have claimed the wreckage as their canvas, while a diverse array of marine creatures call it home. This underwater oasis is populated by majestic lionfish, enigmatic scorpionfish, vigilant trevally, snappers, barracudas, fusiliers, and the playful batfish. Puffer fish and octopuses add a touch of intrigue, and a variety of moray eels elegantly navigate their domain. Notably, the wreck serves as a nursery for nurse sharks, contributing to the vibrant tapestry of marine life.

Diving into Adventure

Diving the King Cruiser Shipwreck requires careful consideration of weather conditions, currents, safety factors, and the comfort of divers on board. While specific sites are subject to these variables and not guaranteed in advance, the allure of exploring this underwater relic holds its own excitement.

Embrace the Challenge

The King Cruiser Shipwreck’s allure is matched by its challenges. Occasional strong currents and limited visibility add an element of unpredictability to the dive, making it a thrilling endeavor for experienced divers.
